SN74LVC1G80: SN74LVC1G80DBVR operation at -55C ambient temperature

Part Number: SN74LVC1G80

Dear Sir/Madam,

We use SN74LVC1G80DBVR in our unit. This chip has Operating free-air Temperature range -40C...125C and Storage Temperature range -65C...150C.
Our unit must be powered and start operation at -55C ambient. Will SN74LVC1G80DBVR be able to operate at -55C without being damaged, and which parameters of this IC may deteriorate during such operation?

Thank you for your help.

Alex

  • Hi Alex,

As SN74LVC1G80DBVR is not rated for -55C operation, TI can not guarantee that it will meet all of its datasheet parameters. I can't say for sure which specific specs will deteriorate and to what degree as we don't have test data for these operating conditions.

The device will probably still work as expected, but we cannot be sure.

  • Hi Chris,

I think you have a typo in your reply, you probably meant  to say that SN74LVC1G80DBVR is not rated at -55C. I use it to generate 125kHz from 250kHz clock, so if rise/fall time or other timing will suffer at -55C shouldn't matter much. The D-Flip-Flop output drives 100kOhm connected between gate-source of N-MOSFET BSS138 - a very light load. All I care that this IC would not be damaged at -55C and it output voltage be enough to drive BSS138. The timing is not critical.

    Thank you,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex,

Thanks for your correction, I'll edit my post to fix that. I would say that the device will probably be ok at -55C and it should be able to provide sufficient voltage, though lifespan and timing may be affected by the low temperature. Again, TI does not have test data for this part at -55C so we cannot guarantee proper function.

  • Thank you Chris, I consider the issue closed.

    All the best,
