CD74HCU04: Die Documentation

Part Number: CD74HCU04

Hi,

I'm looking for any datasheet supplements for a die I have installed with the die marking HCU04E.  The die is greater than 10years old.  I need an appropriately old datasheet.  I'm particularly interested in the type of substrate this die is built on.  Thanks.

  • Hi Clint,

The type of substrate used is proprietary information that can not be shared.

  • So if it is proprietary, then can you tell me how to properly hook up to it? I'm guessing it matters whether it is tied to ground or power?

    Thanks,

    Clint

  • Hi Clint,

Where in the world did you find a 10 year old bare die for HCU04?

Regardless - the pinout of the device should match up with the pinout of the die -- I'd suggest starting with continuity tests to identify VCC / GND (each pin has a diode to both VCC and GND, and they will be on opposite corners of the die).

I don't know of any data sheets for bare die - any chance you have details on when it was ordered / where it was procured from, or a label from the box/reel?

  • Good Morning,

The program using this is a legacy program that made large purchases a long time ago.  I'm currently doing a failure investigation on the card containing this device and an observation was made about the die substrate bonding so i wanted to put that observation to bed.  It does look like the substrate is not expected to be grounded and we have it pulled up to 5V power.

  • Hey Clint,

I took a stab at the pinout here. I can't make any guarantees, but it looks to me like the output pins have pretty wide tracks running to them, which is what we'd expect for outputs on a driver like this, and the inputs have narrow tracks running to them. The place I think I'm most likely to be wrong is on VCC / GND - they could be backwards, but I think I have it right b/c the GND pad is connected to a guard ring around the whole die. Hope this helps.
