Applications using GSM SIM cards

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS4555, TXS4558

Hi,

I am having an idea in which I need to use a SIM card and be able to send and receive SMS. I am new to this field and don't know even buzz words in this field.

I have found following document: http://www.ti.com/lit/ml/scyb018e/scyb018e.pdf Block diagram at the bottom of the page 2 is what I need to know more about it.

Attached, is block diagram that I believe to show my application. I need to know more about the application processor in this block diagram. I would like to know about protocols, to communicate with the SIM card and the GSM tower, any hardware required in this design, any available software/firmware that is available anywhere on planet earth. I would like to know if TI has something ready including software/firmare that can be used in this design.

I appreciate it if you could help me find components that can be used in this design including any development kit by TI or any other company.

Any help that you think is small, can be a big help for me.

Thanks in advance

Ali

  • Hi, Ali,

For your quesiton, I think I can answer only some of them,

    1. For SIM Card, yes, if you only have one SIM card interface, you can use the TXS4555. we do have one part TXS4558 which can support two SIM cards.

    2. For the connecttion to the GSM tower, do you mean you will add the IF and RF circut between the applicaiton processor and Attenna?  and you need us to provide the whole HardWare between them? and also what kind of firmware are you talking about?

    3. For your GPS side, yes, I think you need to provide the firmware by yourself.

    4. If you don't need the infterace like WLAN etc, in your application , you can remove it.
