TCA9535 external pullup required?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TCA9535

Hi,

I'm going to use TCA9535 on our board. I noticed in the datasheet (Figure 16. Typical Application) that the ports configured as input all have external pullup resistors. Is this a design requirement for this chip? or I can leave no external pullup?

Thanks,

Peng

  • The typical application shown is a keypad, and as such, it must use pull-ups. In your board you can avoid the usage of pull ups if you know that you will have a defined logic input (it isn't good for any logic circuit, not only the TCA9525, to leave a floating input unconnected).
