Hi,

I was looking to use this part but it now turns I need isolation also. I am pretty sure this part will not do this. I know it has the two voltage domains but it looks like it's a single/common ground plane in the device?

If I need to do level translation + isolation in an EP package are there any good options?

    You are correct, Calum, the '245 does not provide the classic definition of isolation.  For digital isolation, you would have to use one of the ISO7xxx devices, depending on the configuration required.  For example, for a 2TX/2RX configuration, the ISO7242C would be appropriate: http://www.ti.com/product/iso7242c , and for 4TX, the ISO7240C: http://www.ti.com/product/iso7240c .

    None of these are available as -EP, although the temp range is -40C > 125C.  The closest to -EP is the ISO7240CF-Q1, which is automotive qualified: http://www.ti.com/product/iso7240cf-q1 .    

    However, the ISO7241A-EP in a 3/1 configuration, and the ISO721M-EP single bit, are -EP qualified, the low end of the temp range is -55C instead of -40C: http://www.ti.com/product/iso7241a-ep  , and: http://www.ti.com/product/iso721m-ep  . 

    Send us a block diagram and/or sketch of the configuration that needs to be isolated, and we can put together a more exact solution.

    Seems there is no need for isolation and the SN74CBT16210 could be used for this application, as there does not appear to be a potential for a voltage difference between AGND and DGND.  PCB layout of keeping the AGND and DGND will be more critical.  

    But if it is absolutely necessary to keep the two power supplies separate, you could generate the 3VDD from the 5AVDD, this keeps the supplies separate, but referenced to a common ground.
