TSU6111 UART connection and reference design

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TSU6111

Is there a reference design available for TSU6111?

Is a seperate device required for the USB to UART translation?

Thanks for the help.

  • Gregory,

Is there a reference design available for TSU6111?

No, but I have attached the Application Note which gives guidelines for PCB routing and external components.

Is a separate device required for the USB to UART translation?

    YES

Since this part is really just a smart switch, the term UART is used in reference to the ID resistance that is indicative of UART communication through a micro-USB connection.

Technically, the ID resistances of 523k and 619k route the DP/DM signal through a different path (labeled UART for the original customer), so it could be used as an  alternate HS USB path or additional components can be added to implement UART communication.

I hope this helps and feel free to follow up with more questions.

    Brian

     3527.TSU6111 App Note_111411.pdf

  • Hi Brian
I've just looked at the app note here. The part TSU6111 datasheet says:
"ESD Performance DP/DM/ID/VBUS to GND – ±8kV Contact Discharge (IEC 61000-4-2)
Surge Protection on VBUS/DP/DM – USB Connector Pins Without External Components"
But app note is using external ESD diodes. I'm trying to see if I can remove the Rail clamp I have on DP and DM, by using this part. But seeing this app note, I'm confused now.
    Can you help answer?

    Thanks
