CMOS Logic switch - current limit?

I am using the "High-Speed CMOS Logic Quad Analog Switch with Level Translation" (CD74HC4316M96). There was a short circuit between Vcc and GND. What is the DC current limit of a signal passing through (ON) the chip.  Or do you know of any common causes of a Vcc to GND short?
