We need a level translator from 3.3V to 6V for a 40MHz CCD clock. I am looking at the SN74LVC2T45, which has absolute max VCC of 6.5V, maximum recommended operating voltage 5.5V. The datasheet says:
"Stresses beyond those listed under "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage to the device. These are stress ratings
only, and functional operation of the device at these or any other conditions beyond those indicated under "recommended operating
conditions" is not implied. Exposure to absolute-maximum-rated conditions for extended periods may affect device reliability."
So I understand that operation at 6V is not guaranteed and performance is not specified (although knowing silicon devices it will still operate, probably a bit faster than at 5.5V). We have even done some characterization of these parts at 6V and things look good. Am I correct in my understanding that TI guarantees that there would be no damage to the parts operating at 6V (below absolute maximums)?
I opened a case with TI to ask this (case # 1-1034624961) but then a few days later was sent an email stating that TI no longer responds to support requests (although still allows them to be opened?) and that I should instead post to the forums. So I'll see how responsive these forums are...
