Since this is somewhat of a generic question and not limited to just logic, I'm not sure this is the best forum. I'll start here anyway.
The specific issue is device operation at the lower temperature limits. Many devices like the 74LVC1G04DBV and 74LVC126DBV are rated down to -40C. I have a requirement for an enviromental monitoring system to operate down to -60C. To occommodate this, we are adding heaters but this leads to a broader question.
It is understood that the temperature limits are specified to ensure that all parameters (timing, current requirements, etc.) are met. But at the lower limits what is the expected failure mode? Most importantly, is there a temperature at which the device will no longer operate as a logic gate?
It is fully understood that the manufacturer cannot guarantee operation below the specified temperature and thus we will be performing full qualification testing. We would like to know what can be expected.
