74LVCH8T245

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVCH8T245

Hello,

I'm using the 74LVCH8T245 for interfacing 5V to 3.3V. In my application VCAA = 3.3V and VCBB = 5V. Is the DIR Input in this case 5V tolerant? In the datasheet VI (Input Voltage @control inputs) is given with 0V - 5.5V. Thanks a lot for information.

Best regards Mario Bernhard

  • Mario,

    Yes, the control inputs (DIR and /OE) are 5V tolerant, but they are referenced to VCCA.

    May I suggest switching your A- and B- sides in the translation topology such that:

    VCCA=5V and VCCB=3.3V

    Do you see any problems with this suggestion? The SN74LVCH8T245 does NOT have a requirement that VCCA<VCCB like some other parts.

    Regards,

    Brian

  • Hello Brian,

    I can`t switch the sides in translation topology because  the logic of controlling the DIR needs this topology.

    But if they are 5V tolerant it´s no problem. The µController which is controlling this pins has 5V supply.   So the DIR signal is 0 V or 5V and the 74LVCH8T245 switches with this voltages.

    Best regards

    Mario
