SN74ACT244 / Using 1:8 non inverting buffer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74ACT244

Hi all.

I would like to use SN74ACT244 with the following figure.

Is this method possible?

Best Regards,
Sho Ogane

  • Sho Ogane,Yes, you can configure the SN74ACT244 this way.
  • What kind of device is driving the inputs?
  • Hi James san.

    Thank you for your reply.

I will confirm it to customer. So what is the max data rate when I use the SN74ACT244 as 1:8 buffer.

  • The frequency of a single input can be up to 90 MHz, so potentially, a single input of the SN74ACT244 can handle a data rate of 180 Mbps. However, the data rate will depend greatly on the current drive capability of the device driving the inputs and the total capacitance that the device is driving (Total capacitance = trace capacitance + input capacitance). By connecting all the inputs of the SN74ACT244, your driving device will experience a capacitance 8 times higher than a single input. Ci = 2.5 pf, so the input capacitance of all 8 inputs would be 20 pf.

Ultimately, the customer will need to test the device on his/her board to determine the max data rate. What is your customer's desired data rate?

This is an interesting use case for this part. What is the application?
