I am fighting an obsolescent issue. I have an old design that uses 96LS02 which is not available and/or recommended for new designs. I have done a quick cross reference search on to see if there is any similar or drop in replacement available. I found SN54AHCT123A/SN74AHCT123A as a functional replacement. But after studying the datasheet little closer and comparing it with 96LS02 it look to me that the Triggering logic truth table is not functionally same. I need a little help to figure out how i can use SN54AHCT123A/SN74AHCT123A as a functional replacement to 96LS02.

  • I would recommend looking into the SN74LVC1G123.  It will support the same voltage range and current with very similar capabilities (schmitt trigger inputs, rising and falling edge triggering available, retriggerable, resettable).  I don't know if it would be a direct pin to pin replacement, but it will definitely work.

  • Thank You Shreyas for a prompt reply. The suggestion you made and the replacement part i chose are very similar so using one or the other will be same. My actual concert is the triggering Truth table. If you closely compare 96LS02 with SN74LVC1G123 you will see that the truth table logic does not match. Hence my question was is SN74LVC1G123 really functionally similar to 96LS02 or do i have to design few things around SN74LVC1G123 it to make it work as 96LS02.

    You can refer to the well written app note about SN74LVC1G123 with regard to your app design here . Each of the devices are unique in itself but will have common properties about the functionality .
