SN74HC14 Part # Differences

What is the difference between SN74HC14N3 (which is now obsolete) and newer parts such as SN74HC14N4 or SN74HC14N ? What is the meaning of the N3, N and N4 suffixes and would the N or N4 parts work as replacements?

Hi Benjamin ,

The N4 indicates usage of "green " mold compound which is lead free ( Pb free ) . N is for the package type which is PDIP.

Thanks. Just for verification I'm assuming the N4 and N parts will suffice as replacements for the obsolete N3 part?

SN74HC14N should be the replacement for N3 part , N4 will work just fine as well .
