TXB0104 Drive Strength

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0104, TXS0104E

I am using TXB0104 to translate between 3.3v and 1.8v the driving system has max output drive of 1mA when I prototyped, everything seems to be fine. I am concerned though about the following statement from the TXB0104 datasheet

TXB0104 Data Sheet - “For proper operation, the device driving the data I/Os of

the TXB0104 must have a drive strength of at least ±2 mA."

Any advice on what are the implications? Also, are there any other options that TI recommends? Thanks.

  • Hello Fahd,

    Thanks for the question.

The main issues that could result by not having the full 2 mA drive strength, is that the device may not recognize a low or a high. THere is a series 4k resistor that must be overcome by the device connected to the TXB device. If it doesn't have a strong enough drive, then the TXB will not recognize the input as a high or low.

For weak drive strength, I would recommend taking a look at the TXS0104E instead. You can see some of the differences highlighted in this post: e2e.ti.com/.../321307
