CD74AC00M Nand Gate Ratings

Please could you help me.  I am using CD74AC00M in my design and it has 4 NAND gates within the package.

1, The datasheet says output drive current is 24mA.  Is this current for each gate (4x 24mA) or total for the chip?

2, The datasheet says abs max continuous output current 50mA.  Is this current for each gate (4x 50mA) or total for the chip?

3, Can you exceed these ratings if the current is for very small duty cycle pulses?  e.g. current for 20ns once every 3us?

  • Hi Ben ,

The output drive is per gate . So , you can do 4 *24mA for the total chip without issues .
Abs max is also per gate . You can exceed the conditions one output at a time as mentioned in the electrical spec table ,and need to ensure that the total current pulled doesn't violate the abs max table too.
  • Hi Sreyas,

Thanks for the reply. I understand now about the 4 gates.
The output drive currents and absolute max currents are quoted as continuous currents. I am using the 4 gates to supply current out in very small pulses of 3us once every 20ns. What are the max currents in this case?

    Thanks
    Ben.
  • You definitely can do it but I do not have data on any pulsed max currents the device can sustain .The datasheet abs max shouldn't be violated for reliability of the device aspect . The device are robust enough to not malfunction right away but can have performance issues in the long run if you violate the abs max conditions .
