Can the 74ALVC164245 Level Shifting Transceiver support 5V to/from 2.5V level conversion?

The datasheet demonstrates 5V<->3.3V and 3.3V<->2.5V combinations.  However, it does not demonstrate 5V<->2.5V translations but holds short of explicitly stating that this combination is not allowed.

Is there a subtlety of this logic family that precludes 5V<->2.5V translation?

  • Translation between 5 V and 2.5 V is not often used in practice, so the datasheet does not bother to specify an "Electrical Characteristics" table for this case.

However, VccA=2.5V and VccB=5V is inside the limits of the "Absolute Maximum Ratings" and "Recommended Operating Conditions" tables , so this combination is definitely allowed. Furthermore, table "Switching Characteristics" and Figure 4 explicitly mention this case.
