TI SN74HC164PWR output drive

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74HC595B

All,

One of my customers is planning on using multiple TI SN74HC164PWR to drive LEDs.  The data sheet specs the output drive at +/- 4mA at 5V.  He is running the chip at Vcc = 3.3V.  What is the output drive at 3.3V?  I checked the data sheet and it doesn't specify the Iout (high or low) with Vcc set to 3.3V

 Thanks for your support,

 John

  • Hi John ,

I do not have the char data to support the 3.3V vs Iout case ,however , I see the Vout vs Iout data on 2V case which could source 2mA and maintain >1.7V at 25C .
what is the desired source current to be supported and the min voh to be maintained on this ?

PS : could you also consider sn74HC595B which was recently released in the X1QFN package .
we are also working on TI design using Hc595B and LVC244A used for LED display driving.
  • Try to extrapolate from the voltages given.

Or try to derive the maximum values from these typical values:

  • All,

Where did these charts come from?  I didn't see them in the SN74HC164PWR data sheet.

According to the customer, he needs I need Iol <= 4mA
