On parts like the Quad Bus Buffer SN74125 (not the SN74LS125A) there is a Short Circuit Output Current (Ios) parameter that states the output current when a gate being shorted. On the SN74125 a single gate can be shorted indefinitely.
I do not see a Ios parameter for the SN74AHC1G125 in its data sheet ( http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/sn74ahc1g125.pdf ). Just a continuous maximum output current.
I am wondering if its output could be shorted to ground, and if so for what duration?
Any help would be appreciated.
The application report Input and Output Characteristics of Digital Integrated Circuits at 3.3-V Supply Voltage (SZZA010) shows that when you short an output, you get a current of almost 30 mA:
This exceeds not only the recommended output current, but also the absolute maximum rating of 25 mA.
