SN74HC90N inadvertently mislabeled 74HC92 ic's

I ordered 2 lots of TI SN74HC90N ic's (each lot 10 ic's)

In both lots, all ic's appeared to be divide-by-12 counters, i.e., 74HC92 devices.

So I assume they are inadvertently mislabeled.

Next to the part# the ic's were marked with 23YHOFK_E4 (1st lot) or 32A04JK_E4 (2nd lot).

Since I live in The Netherlands and I ordered them from China, it's not easy to ask for replacement ic's. Btw, I could not find a Dutch vendor.

Is it possible TI mislabels ic's?How do I inform TI? Is TI aware of this mistake? Did they inform there vendors? Where could my vendor go to for advice/help?

And most importantly: how do I know my next order do produce real 74HC90 ic's (i.e. divide-by-10 counters)

  • TI's website does not know about the SN74HC90, which would be unusal even for a discontinued chip. Are you sure this chip exists? Do you have a datasheet?

Anyway, when you order stuff from a non-authorized Chinese distributor, you get exactly what you see on the photo: a chip labeled "SN74HC90N". You're lucky that there is a counter inside (although it's probably not HC but LS).

When I search for "SN74HC90N" on those sites, I find

    • lots of wrongly filed SN74LS92's,
    • a chip where the forger did not even bother to add the TI logo,
    • a chip that claims to have been manufactured in 2012 (yeah, right), and
    • a chip that looks like yours, and is probably just as fake.

Based on this evidence, I'd estimate that it is not possible to obtain real SN74HC90's.

  • Due to uncertainties in the supply chain regarding chain of custody of the products, TI will only support product verification requests from customers who purchase through authorized distributors. All other verification requests must be worked through their supply chain. Please address any further inquiries to ti-counterfeit@list.ti.com.
