CD74HC4046A: Modulation options

Part Number: CD74HC4046A

CD74HC4046A can be implemented for fsk modulation and demodulation. Are there any other options in order to achieve PSK or QAM signal modulation in the same frequency range as CD74HC4046A.

  • Hello August,

It's my understanding that for PSK you need to phase invert 'high' bits and leave 'low' bits non-inverted. I would think that you could use the CD74HC4046A to do this by applying your signal to the SIGIN pin andtaking our output from PC1OUT. The XOR gates in the device will pass the frequency at COMPIN when SIGIN is low and will invert it when SIGIN is high.

I'm afraid that I am not an RF engineer, so I can't give you a more definitive answer.
