SN74HC32: Chip lot codes and corrosion failure.

Hi,

We have had field failures of SN74HC32N with the lot code of 2CCX1TK E4 and 2CCXKRK E4 installed in 2015. FA found Chlorine induced corrosion /oxidation. We are taking steps to change flux.

Can anyone tell me what these two lot codes mean and why we would not see this with any other chip on the PCB.

Are there any other steps that can be taken to reduce this failure in the future.

If you believe there is a quality issue with this part, I would refer you to work with your local sales/distribution to submit the devices for failure analysis.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for the info. The parts were sent in and FA. There was contamination on the bonds that caused them to break. TI offered some suggestions to keep it from happening again. Odd that the parts had the same or close lot codes and all failed around 2 years fielded.

I can probably close our report since I don't think I am going to get more information.
