SN74HC32: Date code info

Hi,

We are experiencing a high failure rate of this date code but cant find any information on it. Can someone tell me what these codes mean?

2CCXKRK E4

FA found that the bond released inside the chip but why would it only be these date codes? Other chips with the 2CC on the same board have not failed. We are a small company and this has started to impact our customer relations.

Hello,

These codes provide us with information about which lot the devices came from. These are lot trace code numbers, and they are for our reference.
If you feel that you are finding a high failure rate among your devices, I would suggest that you work with your local sales team or distribution team to work toward submitting the devices for failure analysis.

Hi Michael,

The parts were FA and found contamination and a corroded broken bond.

We have had 8 failed chips with the same two date codes. No other chips on the boards have failed. The defect occurs over multiple assemblies and multiple assembly dates.

I am getting pressured by ETM and our customer to answer these questions. Each chip failure is a failed microwave amplifier and a black mark against the company.

How widespread is this defect?
How many more failures can we expect?
What failure rate has TI experienced with these codes 5% 50%?
Should we recall the field or inspect when the equipment is cycled through ETM for reset / upgrade.

If I was TI I would be very interested in why only these two codes have failed. It is possible the defect was found and a corrective action has been implemented.

Hi Emrys,
IT did a great job on the FA. Very detailed including spectral analysis of the broken bond. The conclusion was to check our process. We are making changes but no indication as to why only the two codes are affected.

I talked to our quality team, and they said the best thing you can do is contact the person who wrote up the FA report - they know everything that's going on with your particular case, and they will definitely respond.
