3.3V / 5V inverting bus transceiver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVCC3245A, LSF0108

I'm re-designing a VME-bus system that uses 5V on many cards.  I plan to re-design one card at a time to use 3.3V.   This means each card must maintain a 5V interface on the bus.  The current design uses 74HCT640 for the data bus and 74HCT240 for the address bus.  Both of these are inverting devices.  I'd like to find similar inverting devices that accept 3.3V from the card logic and 5V from the bus.  It appears as though the SN74LVCC3245A would be ideal except it is not inverting.  Please suggest a replacement device(s).

  • Hi Fred,
I don't think we have anything like this, but I have notified an apps engineer to look into it further.

You might consider just adding an LSF0108 or similar translator after the transceiver to change from 5V down to 3.3V and continue to use the same 5V device on the bus side.
  • Hey Fred,

After scanning through our portfolio I'm not seeing any octal transceivers that are also inverting; they do exist we just don't produce any. Although there are a couple of options that could work in your scenario, I would recommend the course of action that Emrys suggested. Use the inverting chip that you currently have and get a second one to act as the translator for the signal to go from 5 to 3.3 (LSF0108, TXS0108, etc...).

    Best Regards,
    Nick
