SN74AVC2T245: Unused data ports must not be floating; tie the unused port input and output to ground directly

Part Number: SN74AVC2T245

Hello team.

Hope you are well.

On section 9.1 of datasheet, there is following comment.

Unused data ports must not be floating; tie the unused port input and output to ground directly.

Customer question: Why do you recommend that unused output pin tied to ground?

Regards,

Randhir

  • Hi Randhir,
Please see the response on your other post.
  • Hey Randhir,

You're correct that outputs can typically be left floating, however, good design practice means minimizing the number of unkowns in your design. One easy way to do this is to simply ensure that outputs have a solid, unwavering potential associtated with them while not affected circuit operation, i.e. tie it to GND. Inputs are a totally different story and for functional reasons should always be tied to a defined potential with straps. In this case since they won't be used, GND is a good option. I suspect you know this since you only asked about outputs but more information can be found here.

If this answered your quesiton please verfiy the solution below by hitting the green button! If not, then I'd be happy to answer any additonal questions you may have.

    Best Regards,
