SN74ALVC164245: Data transfer rate of SN74ALVC164245DGGR

Part Number: SN74ALVC164245

Dears,

       SN74ALVC164245DGGR is used in a FPGA expansion board, Packet loss in 10M ;

Could you help to tell the data transfer rate of SN74ALVC164245DGGR,and how to figure up it?

Anything TTL IC recommended for higher transfer rate?

       Thanks very much.

  • Hi Cris,

You haven't given me much information to work with.  If you want help with the system, I will need to know the voltages, source, load, and line characteristics (preferably a schematic and oscilloscope shots of the existing waveforms).

As for the data transfer rate of the SN74ALVC164245, I can help there.  *** First, the short answer - 150 MHz ***

This is one of our most frequently asked questions, and has its own section on our Logic FAQ page.

To get there, first click this button at the top right of the forum homepage:

Then go the the Timing section:

In the timing section, this is the second question:

And since this part is not a clocked device, the answer is at the end of that section:

It's easy to find a comparable clocked part - on http://www.ti.com/ just search for "alvc" and look for the first Flip-Flop -- I selected SN74ALVCH32374.

This device has a rated frequency of 150 MHz from 2.5V to 3.3V operation. Since the SN74ALVCH32374 is built on the same technology as SN74ALVC164245 but is significantly more complex, it is safe to say that the SN74ALVC164245 will also operate well at 150 MHz.

The next question to ask would be, what are your operating conditions? It is possible that the issue is at the system level (such as long traces, large capacitive load, poor routing, transmission line characteristics, etc).  If you can share details (schematics, scope shots), I can be of more assistance.

  • Hi Emrys,

Thanks for your support very much, and what the transmission rate of SN74ALVC164245DGGR,1/tpd? Anything also recommended?
  • Hi Cris,
Propagation delay (tpd) is not related to maximum transmission rate.

I know this seems counter-intuitive, however a great parallel example is satellite communications - it takes 250ms for data to reach some satellites (tpd), but that doesn't mean the data rate is limited to 1/250ms = 4 Hz.
  • Hi Emrys,

Ok,got it; So what about its' transmission speed?,3.3v:16M,5.0V:10M?
I can't get them from datasheet clearly?
  • Hey Cris,
Are you talking about data rates?

The maximum operating frequency of 150 MHz indicates that the device can transfer up to 75 Mbps max at both 3.3V and 5V.

I'm afraid that we do not have characterization data for data rates on this device, so it is not specified in the datasheet. That is why we have to look at a similar device with a clock input for the maximum operating frequency. It is likely that this device will work at much higher frequencies, but I cannot guarantee it without proper characterization.
