"54F86" Product checking information related with National Semiconductor Parts

Part Number: Part Number: 54F86DMQ8
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74F86

This is Joong-hyeok Lee, DMSMS researcher of Leoinnovision.
Leoinnovision is the official EOL(End Of-Life)/obsolescence part manager of Korean Military (Army, Navy, Air force) and PLM agency of many defense industries (Hanwha, ADD, etc.)

I am searching for the information of a product "54F86DMQ8" IC used by Korean Navy.

The parts had been manufactured by National Semiconductor.

But I've already checked that TI has acquisition of National Semiconductor Inc.

So I have a request to you about the part.

If you know the parts, please let me know the information about the part.

Part Description: 2-Input Exclusive-OR Gate

In case of part obsolescence, our military and Korean DoD hopes to know the information related with product EOL(End Of-Life).

So could you provide me some information of the item?
I need the data below.

- Status(Active or Discontinued/Obsolete) :

- LCC(Life Cycle Code) : (You don’t have to type if it was discontinued)

- YTEOL(Years To End-of Life) : 00 Years (You don’t have to type if it was discontinued)

It is important for us to check the parts’ status for maintaining our system operation.

If the item has not any discontinuance schedule, please let me know.
Korean DoD will use the information above only for the research and the next purchase.

Feel free to contact me if you have any further information of me and my company.

  • Hi Joong-hyeok,
I don't seem to have any record of "54F86" as a device at TI. Has this device been purchased through TI before, and if so, is it with the exact part number listed above?
  • We have two datasheets related with the parts. I think National Semiconductor Part "54F86DMQB" is same with TI part "SN54F86".

Please refer two parts' datasheets. And if "54F86DMQB" can be replaced with "SN54F86", could you provide availability information about the part?54F86DMQB.pdf

  • Thanks Joong-hyeok,

I was able to find the datasheets. I have asked the group responsible for those parts to take a look and get back to you.

TI's EOL policy is available in "Texas Instruments General Quality Guidelines" section 20, "Product Withdrawal/Discontinuance":

TI’s Product withdrawal/discontinuance process complies with J-STD-048, latest issue. TI makes an effort to not obsolete products out of convenience. Convenience means: low running device, poor yields, limited customer adoption or similar items. TI’s obsolescence withdrawal schedule provides a longer lead time than the industry standard. TI allows 12 months for the last order and an additional 6 monthsto take final delivery of obsolete items. In rare circumstances, an accelerated withdrawal schedule may be necessary. In such cases, TI will communicate the last buy and final delivery dates in the EOL notice, along with an explanation of the circumstances necessitating the early withdrawal.

  • National Semiconductor sold the mil grade Logic business to Arrow in 2005.   I suggest checking with Arrow Electronics to see if they still have stock.

The 54F86 is an industry standard part.  It could be replaced with the SN54F86 as long as the package and grade were the same.   It is the same functionality as the SN74F86, but the SN74F86 will not have the wide temperature range or come in a hermetic package or be processed and tested to mil standards.
