CD4060B: CD4060B generate a positive/ negative square waveform

Part Number: CD4060B

Dear Sir,

My customer use CD4060B to do a positive/ negative square  generator(please refer attached file)

I swa this circuit have some question:

1. Does CD4060B can supply +/-5V ?

2. Does CD4060B have reference design for  a square  generator.

Thanks!

  • Hi Steven,

    1. Does CD4060B can supply +/-5V ?

This device can be supplied with 3V up to 18V, as per the Recommended Operating Conditions table in the datasheet.

As with any electronic circuit, the CD4060B doesn't care if ground is 0V, -5V, or +100V, it is merely a reference point.  What matters is the potential difference between the ground pin and the other pins on the device.

I have seen logic devices that are intended for a 3V supply operated at a 300V rail, but the ground was tied to 297V, which kept them inside the datasheet specs. It's pretty impressive what can be done with a little outside-the-box thinking.

    2. Does CD4060B have reference design for  a square  generator.

No, there isn't a reference design, however that is the whole purpose of this device. Since this is an old Harris Semiconductor part that was acquired by TI, we probably won't be investing time into a reference design for it.

The datasheet has a great deal of information in it, however, and we do see a small subset of our customers using this as a clock generator.
