TXB0102: Signal Delays

Part Number: TXB0102
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS0102

Would like to use the TXB0102 to translate a 5V ultrasonic sensor to 1.8V GPIO.  Concern about possible timing delay.  Is there a timing spec define rated across temp.. Particularly interested in the -40C and 85C temp ranges.   Since delays in timing the can effect the distance measured by the ultrasonic sensor.    Also is there a recommended voltage translator that can be used for both I2C and GPIO interfaces.

I2C is open drain and GPIO needs both High and Low level for translation.  Would like a single IC if possible to have both capabilities.

Thanks,

Tenyu

  • Hi Tenyu,

    Welcome to e2e !

Is this only down translation application?
I know I2C would be bidirectional, but not sure about the GPIO.
TXB0102 or the TXB family is not suggested for the I2C translation due to the internal 4K resistor which will form a voltage divider with the pullup resistor on the I2C lines.
I would recommend using the TXS0102 which is suitable for I2C with the built in 10k pullup resistor and can also work with the push pull interface of GPIO. The only drawback would be the additional current draw during the low state through the pullup resistor.
We cannot guarantee performance of the device beyond the listed datasheet values, unfortunately.
