SN74F163A: Logic Gate Symbol Confusion

Part Number: SN74F163A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74HC163

While looking at the data sheet for the SN74F163A I came across I logic symbol I haven't seen before or understand. It looks like and AND gate, but has a junction in ehe center. What does this symbol represent? I included a screenshot with the symbols in question below.

  • Hi Louis,
It looks like whoever wrote this intended it as an AND gate with the bottom and left signals as inputs and the right signal as an output -- the actual circuit is probably more convoluted than what is shown here.

I would recommend looking at a newer device (the 'F' family is about 40 years old, unless I'm mistaken). Perhaps SN74HC163?
