SN74HC04: What is the difference between SN74HC04DR and CD74HC04M96?

Part Number: SN74HC04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CD74HC04,

Hi TI Folks,
Good day to you.

Please teach what is the difference between SN74HC04DR and CD74HC04M96?

Best regards
Jiang WeiJi

  • Hi Jiang,
I would recommend looking in the datasheets. All the differences are listed in those.

First, the similarities. These devices are from the same logic family (HC) and are the same function (04 - hex inverter) - so you can expect that the operating voltages, currents, and funcitonal table will be identical.

The first major difference is on page 1 -- the CD74HC04 was acquired by TI from Harris Semiconductor while the SN74HC04 was designed by TI. Also, CD74HC04 is rated from -55 to +125C, and SN74HC04 is rated from -40 to +85C.

After that, I easily found multiple differences in timing specs between the two datasheets -- although the differences are minor.

Is there a particular application that you need help deciding between the two device, or perhaps are you having trouble with one of them?
