SN74LVC4245A: If it is possible to connect SN74ALVC164245DGGR output into two SN74LVC4245APWR device

Part Number: SN74LVC4245A

For board to board communication, We used Level translator driver IC's. Board 1 have FPGA, the output line 3.3V is connected to SN74ALVC164245DGGR (+3.3V to +5V ) Level translator. Output (+5V) of the level translator is connected to Connector (PMC). My requirement is, the +5V output to be connected into two SN74LVC4245APWR device (Board 2 and Board 3).

I seen in SN74ALVC164245DGGR datasheet, Ouptut clamp current is -50mA in Maximum Absolute rating. In-case after connecting two SN74LVC4245APWR device, the sing current will be around ~48mA.

I want to know, any possible is there to operate the single SN74ALVC164245DGGR into two SN74LVC4245APWR device.

  • Hi Karthick,
The SN74ALVC164245DGGR can definitely drive the inputs of two SN74LVC4245APWR, however if the traces and other parasitice require 48mA from each channel, then you've got a problem. The device is only rated to support a maximum total current of 100mA, so only two channels could be operated at 48mA at the same time within the datasheet specs.

Can you provide a schematic? It's very strange to see 48 mA at the output of one of these devices in normal operation.
