CD4504B: Is it workable for 3.3V to 5V level shift application

Hi Team,

My customer has two applications that to transfer 3.3V signal level to 5V and 15V signal level.

1. I found the datasheet shows that VDD operation range is 5V to 18V, does VCC have same limitation? Is it OK if VCC can operate at 3.3V and input signal level is also 3.3V logic level?

2. If the answer is "no" for Q1, can I power VCC 5V and select pin is at VCC high logic state. Then 3.3V logic level of input signal is acceptable, right?

Hi Vincent,

1. Yes it does, the VCC can also exceed the VDD which will allow for down translation. Yes you can operate VCC at 3.3V and input 3.3V.

2. Even though the answer is yes to Q1, I just want to say that this is also right.
