SN74LVC3G17: Level translator Vcc = 3V, Inputs = 5V?

Part Number: SN74LVC3G17

The datasheet says that the inputs accept up to 5.5V regardless of the Vcc. Does it mean that SN74LVC3G17 can be used as a 5V->3V level translator?

  • Hello Andrew,
Yes, this is possible. It's important to note that the input thresholds will be different at 3V than they would be at 5V. This does not often cause problems, but you should know about it.

Also, there's an FAQ that goes into some details about the over-voltage tolerance of inputs: e2e.ti.com/.../723607

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
