Is it possible to be left the unused pin open?

I understand it is mentioned as "the A and B sides of an unused data I/O pair must be held in the same state (GND or VCC)" at the datasheet.

However what happen to this device if the unused pin is left open. (Our customer would like the pin to be left open if it is possible.)

Hi Koji san,

If there is a schematic or snapshot of it, please do share, if possible. I would like to know more about the application and the interface being used.
Unused IO pins for the logic devices are advised to be connected to gnd, however, the TXB is like a weak latch which tries to maintain a defined high or low state.
