CD4046B: Phase lock loop

Part Number: CD4046B

Hello,

I am a student at the college of Staten Island and I am using a CD4046BE to phase lock with a grid signal. As a test trail, my partner and I are beginning with a test trail. We are using a function wave generator to produce and sinusoidal signal of a 100Hz and a voltage peak to peak of 118mV. We would like to use comparator 2, the data sheet

referred us to Figure 9b for the values of R2 and C1.

R2 = 100Kohms

C1 = 200nF

We are having trouble find out what value for R1. the data sheet says we need calculate what Fmax/Fmin but we do not have values for Fmax and Fmin. According the graphical explanation they are values below and above the center frequency. We need to know if we choose this values or do we need to perform some sort of test to find this values.

Thank you for your time.

  • Hi Steve,

    You should be able to get by with using just one resistor. R1 and C1 determine the VCO range, R2 will determine the offset which may not be necessary for you. With that said, I wanted to inform you that the device you chose works with digital signals (square waves) that have to be a certain voltage level depending on the supply voltage. The input you stated wouldn't work.
