SN74ALVTHR16245: Is the hot insertion feature of SN74ALVTHR16245 same function as hot swap feature?

Part Number: SN74ALVTHR16245

 Hello guys,

One of my customers is looking for logic transceiver (245 series) can be hot swapping. They found it seems that SN74ALVTHR16245 could be hot swapping because the device datasheet said it has hot insertion feature. Is their understanding correct?  Is the hot insertion feature same function as hot swap feature? Is there any way to find which device has hot swap feature? Could you tell me how to find such device?

Your reply would be much appreciated.

 Best regards,

 Kazuya Nakai.

  • Hello Nakai-san,

There are four levels to live-insertion for standard logic devices (details in this application report):

    Level 0 Isolation

Level 1 Isolation - includes Ioff/Partial Power Down feature

Level 2 Isolation "Hot Insertion" - includes Power-up 3-state feature

Level 3 Isolation "Live Insertion" - includes Precharged I/Os feature

The SN74ALVTHR16245 is has Level 2 Isolation (Hot Insertion) because it has the "Ioff" and "Power-up 3-state" features.

Unfortunately, with our current parametric search tables, this is not a search option.  We are working to update the tables, however the updates will not be available for several months.
