SN54LVC08A: Mil-Spec Part Selection

Part Number: SN54LVC08A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN54AC00

For mil-spec and rad-hard products, what is the difference between these and ordinary parts? Is it the level of testing, the packaging, is it completely different silicon or some combination of all three? Thanks

  • Todd,
In general across all High Reliability product types, our -SP devices are rad hard, or rad tolerant by design or process. This will make them different from their commercial/automotive or mil-ceramic equivalent.

However, the logic -SP families do not necessarily fully apply to this rule. They were released quite some time ago, and most do not have any radiation hardening. The AC family has 3 devices that were modified to give them improved TID performance. These are the SN54AC00, AC02, and AC14 in the -SP variants. The military versions do not have the rad improvements.

For the other logic -SP versions, they will have the appropriate Class V screenings where military versions will not.

You can always search for a radiation report for a device to help determine radiation pedigree. This video shows an overview of High Rel products, and how to search reports including radiation reports. training.ti.com/how-find-radiation-and-reliability-reports-ticom
