Hello,

I am looking for an up/down counter that counts on both the rising and falling edge of the clock (dual edge counter). The inputs should be one clock and a direction input (not dual clock). Ideally the count goes from 0-9, but that is flexible. Are there any parts like this?

Hi Mitch,
There are dual counters, like the SN74LV8154, but I don't know of any that count on both clock edges. The only solution I could think of would be to add a monostable multivibrator (pulse generator) to trigger on both rising and falling edges.

What kind of voltage and data rate/pulse widths are you looking at?

Hello,

When I said "dual edge counter" I was just referring to triggering on both the up and down edge of the clock, I do not need a dual channel counter. Are there any single channel counters that trigger on both edges of the clock?

I am fairly early on in the design stage, so voltages are flexible, but I would presume either 3.3V or 5V, and the pulse widths will not be very fast, although having the capability to go fast would be a bonus.

Hey Mitch,

I think you misunderstand me -- I don't mean there aren't any dual channel counters that don't count on both edges - I mean I don't know of ANY counters that work that way.
