SN74ALVC164245: Default output

Part Number: SN74ALVC164245

Hi TI experts,

We've a question about the default output of SN74ALVC164245.

As the input is High-Z status, and the EN is enabled, so what's the output status, also high-Z or high?

Thank you.

  • Hello Liren,
The SN74ALVC164245 is a transceiver -- essentially a direction controlled buffer. If the outputs are enabled, then the device will transmit any data from the inputs to the outputs.

If you have left an input floating, ie you don't know what voltage is on the input, then I also do not know what voltage is on the output. It is a requirement that all input pins are held at a valid level for the device to operate correctly.

This can be fixed by adding a pull-down resistor (typically 10kohm) to the "High-Z" input to ensure that it returns to LOW when disconnected. (or you could use a pull-up resistor to VCC to ensure it returns HIGH when disconnected)
