SN74LVC1G373: Expected quiescent current?

Part Number: SN74LVC1G373

Hello,

I am using this part with the following conditions:

  • OE connected to GND
  • LE connected to an output signal from a comparator
  • D connected to VBAT
  • VBAT = 3.7V

The output of the comparator is also lowpass filtered to prevent noise from enabling the latch unexpectedly.  Based on the datasheet specification of Icc being 10uA max, I was expecting the measured Iq when the device is "doing nothing" to be closer to 10uA, but I am measuring closer to 1uA at room temperature.  I understand that temperature extremes can cause this to rise significantly, and this covers the wide voltage range of 1.65 to 5.5V VCC.  However, I would just like to confirm that I am reading this datasheet correctly.

Any advice would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Mike

  • Hi Michael and welcome to the forums!

It's very common for LVC devices to use less than 1uA during static operation, and not really much more across temperature, but the datasheet specs typically put a lot of headroom on there because the d/s has to account for all possible process shifts in addition to temperature swing.

I should note that connecting a typical low-pass filter (RC) to the input of a CMOS device can cause big problems (excess current, oscillations, possible damage to the logic device).  There's an FAQ on this topic located here:
