TXS0102: Can TXS0102 be used as a replacement for SN74AVC2T245 with a uBlox SARA-G340 (TXD and RXD lines only)

Hi,

I'm trying to replace a part recommended by uBlox and was wondering if TXS0102 would be a proper replacement to avoid the direction pins circuitry altogether.

The circuit I'm interested in is the following (copied from uBlox SARA-G340 integration manual page 130):

Hi ajs,

They won't be pin to pin compatible, but you could use a TXB0102 for this. For the device used in their reference schematic, the direction pins can be tied directly to GND or VCC to have fixed directions. This makes for a more simple circuit.

Ajs,

You could also consider using 2 * 2N7001T as unidirectional 1.8V <>3V translators. The DPW is 0.64mm2 package which will save board space even with 2 of them.

and the table 46 you have shown here should not say unidirectional voltage translator; since the AVC2T245 have 2 DIR pins to control the signal flow.

Just to be on the safe side I believe something like this could work? U_ means the processor side working at 3.3v (Vcc) and D_ means the SARA device working at 1.8v.

For the first circuit, the processor transmits on port A and SARA receives on port B.

On the second circuit SARA transmits on port A and the processor receives on port B.

Yes, this looks good. I am working on an app note talking about the UART and other interfaces which could use the 2N7001T device which should be released soon.
