CD4081B: CMOS Input Tr and Tf specification , App Notes

Part Number: CD4081B

Working on legacy product using CD4000 series logic.

Cannot find links to the  National Semi App Notes on CMOS logic family characteristics

AN-77, CMOS The Ideal Logic Family

AN-88, CMOS Linear Applications

If not available can provide link for these App Notes can provide TI equivalent?

Have not worked with CD4000 series before and this design is based on asynchronous combinatorial logic.

One spec that seems to be missing is the Tr and Tf of input signals.

Later generation CMOS families, 74HCT, 74ACT,  include this specification.

Is the input rise and fall time not critical for CMOS CD4000 series?

  • Hi David,
I'm afraid I don't know those app notes, so I'm not sure what would be equivalent.

CD4k is a CMOS logic family, so the input transition rate needs to be relatively fast, with the exception of Schmitt-trigger input devices.

I would recommend keeping the inputs at or below 20ns/V when possible, with worst case max of 100ns/V.
