Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE032

I need to find an area to learn about PLC's from level zero up.

I have no knowledge of these devices however I think I might make use of these devices if I can learn what they are and what they can do.

Sorry I have not listed a device, I need to learn first.

      Since TI does not produce PLCs, rather, we supply components for those companies that do design and manufacturer PLCs.  Having said that, we do have some design notes and reference designs for PLCs, so this might be a good starting point for understanding the basics of PLCs.  This would be a good starting point: http://www.ti.com/solution/plc-controller  , and you can search further on TI.com for more insights into PLC designs.

  • Hello Leonard,  this was a little too advanced for me at this time.  I thank you for your reply and I will bookmark this site for future reference, however, I need to learn what the device is, what it will do under certain circumstances and how to write programs for it.

    I am hoping for a book on the subject somewhere that starts at level 0, then works up slowly to actually doing my thing with it.

  • Hello Rodney,

    As mentioned, the PLC is a product design, not just one IC.  A good basic understanding might be to start at our Reference Designs for Factory Automation overview:  www.ti.com/applications/industrial/factory-automation/overview.html , scroll down to the -CPU(PLC Controller), select the Small Programmable Controller, and then click on the Digital Processing block to get an overview.

    Other than searching for PLC info on the web, this is about the most basic as we can provide for TI designs; you'll have to read through this and extract what is applicable for you. 

    Also, I'm assuming you have been referring to PLC = Programmable Logic Controller, rather than PLC = Power Line Communications, such as the AFE032 provides, correct?   www.ti.com/product/AFE032/description .
