    The difference between the SN74LVC08-Q1 and the SN74LVC08A-Q1 is that only the latter exists.

    If you meant the SN74ALVC08-Q1: its inputs are not 5 V tolerant.

    The HC is slower and has lower drive stength than the (A)LVC. If the HC works in your circuit, consider using the SN74AHC08Q-Q1 instead, which has better characteristic at lower cost.
