SN74LVC8T245: maximum output current protection

Part Number: SN74LVC8T245

Hi Ti,

my design is to make  driver for  optocoupler base on IC PNPS8101* with series resistance of 250 ohm to the LED.

I need to use output type push and pull, current sink and source output +/-12-14mA.

PLS tell me if one of the  output is shorted to GND does the IC PN 74LVC8T245 will damage?

What is the different between  current short output (IOS ) and maximum output current ( IO max)?

How can i protect the output from short to ground when i can not add another series resistance  close to the output?

Thanks

Ilan
