LSF0108-Q1: device operation question

Part Number: LSF0108-Q1

Team,

Does the LSF0108-q1 translator have a simple FET internally? If so, I’m a little confused how the FET turns on for down-translation vs up-translation. Watching the training videos, the body diode of the FET doesn’t seem to be tied to a drain or source so I am curious how this works.

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Hi Viktorija,
A MOSFET has 2 body diodes -- usually one is shorted out (on the Source side), however this is a 4-port MOSFET. The body is connected to ground directly, not to either of the ends. The diodes are both from ground to the output pins -- back to back, preventing current flow from one side to the other. This makes it so Drain and Source are undefined until external voltages are applied.
