SN74AUP1G07: Continuous current through VCC or GND

Part Number: SN74AUP1G07

Hi,

I have a question about the absolute maximum rating of Io listed in the data sheet P.4.
In "Continuous output current", the max value is specified as ±20mA.
In "Continuous current through VCC or GND", the max value is specified as ±50mA.
Why is it specified as ±50 mA?
Since the SN74AUP1G07 is a 1-channel buffer, I think that ± 50 mA does not exceed if the load current is within ± 20 mA.

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • Hello Sakai-san,

Load current is not the only source of current for Vcc and GND.  Also, the absolute maximum rating of the part is not intended to give you instructions on how to use the part -- it is used to provide the limitations of the device prior to being damaged.

If, as you say, you cannot exceed those values -- that is a good thing.  Don't exceed them.
