The speed is limited by the parasitic capacitances of all connected devices and the traces between them. (For full speed, ≤ 70 pF.) Otherwise, the TXS uses passive switches, so the limit is determined not by the TXS itself, but by the drive strength of the master.
For SPI, it is generally a better idea to use a translator with active buffers, i.e., the SN74AVC4T774. (For more than one slave, add some unidirectional translator.)
Hi Clemens
Master drive current after TXS0104E output current will be smaller? What happens to the current
Master can drive 3 slaves without increasing TXS
Hi Hank,
Can you clarify you follow up question? I believe Clemens answered your initial answer. I also recommend using the SN74AVC4T774 for this application as its better suited and it can handle heavier loads.
My PCB is finished.TXS0104E and SN74AVC4T774f are not P2P.
My Master is able to drive three slaves. So after master adds TX0104E, can it still drive 3 slaves?
Originally, the master current is enough to drive 3 slave . Is it ok after adding TXS0104E
As I said, that depends on the capcitive load, and on the speed you want to achieve.
The simplest way to find out whether your PCB is OK is to look at the SPI waveforms with an oscilloscope.
Hi Hank,
I can't really provide a solid answer since it will depend on the capacitive loading of the device and the data rate you are trying to achieve. Each device connected to the I/Os of the TXS0104 will add some capacitance as well as the traces. These things can easily exceed 70 pF depending on the layout. Since the PCB is finished, the best thing I can suggest is to test it and see.
