I would like to use inverter IC SN74HCT04NSR for generating output level of 0 and -5V.

as per the above suggested driver circuit, i have simulated the same in Tina using a single channel hex inverter SN74AHC1G04 as shown below and the simulated response as in the graph below. Can anyone suggest whether the implemented logic is correct for generating 0V and -5V output.

As in the datasheet it is not mentioned anywhere to connect the ground pin of inverter with -5V, So if i apply -5V to the ground pin of this IC will it get damaged.

Hi Karthik,

It's possible that this implementation will work however it won't be guaranteed under datasheet specs.

V_CC is connected to the circuit ground, so from the point of view of the inverter, the voltage between its own V_CC and GND is 5 V, which is perfectly fine. (The diode prevents higher voltages from being visible at the first inverter's input.)
