SN74AXC8T245: can this device run 8 LEDs?

Hi,

I am using this IC in a new design as pure voltage translator. Reading the documentation for its evaluation board I saw an application as LED driver from a 1.8V GPIO and it is quite neat.

Is it possible/recommended to drive up to 8 LEDs? The total current through the LEDs is well below the 50ma maximum current stated in the datasheet.

This is what I am trying to do to be precise. Is it advisable?

The SN74AXC8T245 would be perfectly fine with these loads.

But you could simply use buffers or inverters with overvoltage-tolerant open-drain outputs to drive the low side of the LEDs.

Thanks for your reply! I like the SN74AXC8T245 because it is very compact!

I will keep in mind the buffers for future designs as well
